Francis is a Muscovy duck! Muscovy ducks are a domesticated species that have long been bred for meat. Francis was rescued along with his sister Fern as abandoned pets. Francis was healthy, but his sister Fern had a leg disability that put her at risk of being euthanized. Our landlord Melissa, an avid bird-lover and rehabber, and sent them our way and we adopted them to sanctuary.
Francis has quite the personality. He is very spicy and is not afraid to let you know he is present. He often comes around with a wagging tail and a hissing noise he uses as a greeting (a common behavior of a muscovy duck). Francis spends most of his time with Ares and Luna. Of note, he has never found a female to bond with, and might forever be a third-wheel on Ares and Luna. He's had the opportunity to partner up with Susie and Brandi (female muscovies) but for one reason or another he remains the platonic third mate in the Luna-Ares-Francis triangle.
