Kia Maria was once a member of our wild flock at the Sanctuary and quickly became a favorite among our volunteers for her sweet, gentle, and affectionate personality. She loves to be held and will often drift off to sleep in the comforting hands of those who care for her.
Because of Kia Maria's trusting nature and the cataracts she developed as a young hen, we welcomed her as an official Sanctuary resident, where she became the perfect companion for Marceau, our special-needs rooster with a permanently splayed leg.The two share an incredibly special bond that beautifully reminds visitors of the deep connections and rich emotional lives that chickens are capable of forming.
We are so grateful that Kia Maria found her forever home at the Sanctuary, where she is cherished, safe, and surrounded by love.
